To engage or not to engage with your followers on social media? Some people are still afraid of ‘rocking the boat’. However, the panel give a unanimous YES vote on engaging with content. Once you are consistent with your opinion, writing style and voice then the panel strongly encourage you to join in the conversation that is happening on your social media platforms. Brian Harte shares how he has dealt with negative Facebook posts in the past. He recommends using ‘Velocity’ as your counter action. Velocity is a term that he describes as instead of deleting negative posts from Facebook he will instead post more positive posts and pictures above the negative to push that content down the feed and therefore minimizing the impact.

  1. Education-Focus on the Transferable Skills
  2. Empower- Recruit digital ambassadors
  3. Excite- Never underestimate the power of ‘shininess’ and ‘flashiness’!

7 things to consider for Social Media in 2015

  1. Learn the analytics behind social media instead of the platform itself.
  2. Define your KPIs before you start posting.
  3. Don’t expect your customers to come to you, you would not expect this in real life.
  4. Measure the time being spent on social media. The platform may be free but time is money.
  5. Go beyond vanity metrics.
  6. Think quality not quantity. Quality always trumps quantity in social media.
