OMiG May Meet Up with Marketo's Marketing Director, Liz Smyth and Oisin Browne, Author of The Binman's Guide To Selling

We are excited to announce that with the help of sponsorship from Marketo (European Headquarters) and support from the Harbour Hotel, Galway that the network’s fifth meeting of 2013 will be taking place on Monday 27th May in the Harbour Hotel Galway.

At this meeting some of Galway’s most elite business people and online marketing companies will get the chance to listen to two fantastic guest speakers who will each be offering their unique perspective on Online Marketing.

To start off the night there will be a presentation by Liz Smyth, Marketing Director of Marketo’s European headquarters. Marketo was recently named one of “America’s Most Promising Companies” by Forbes Magazine, the fastest-growing private company of 2011 by the Silicon Valley Business Journal, and the 2011 CRM Market Leaders Awards Winner for Marketing Solutions” by CRM Magazine. In 2012, the company set up their European Headquarters in Ireland’s Digital Hub, Dublin.

Liz Smyth will bring to OMiG’s event what Marketo bring to their channels every day, informative and relevant information about Online Marketing and Sales strategies. There will be a particular focus on Marketing Automation as this is what Marketo do. Marketing Automation is becoming an essential strategy with many companies today and is something that is growing at a rapid pace.

OMiG are delighted that some of this knowledge will be brought to Galway from Marketo’s very own Marketing Director. Liz will be bringing up the important RPI topic; ‘Sales and Marketing Alignment in the Digital Era’.

The network is also excited to welcome back to its May event, the energetic Oisin Browne, Author of 'The Binman's Guide To Selling',  a new book which has received praises from top global business experts Marshall Goldsmith, Libby Gill and Dr Paddy Lund. Oisin brings content marketing to a new level with his accessible and informative read, The Binman’s Guide to Selling. Key chapters include ‘Marketing: Does your Mother get it?', 'Don’t Drop Your Trousers!’; ‘The Secret Language of Selling’; and ‘Break The Year Down To The Day’.  

Littered with colourful, real-life anecdotes and accompanying tips, the book also contains interviews with top-selling teams, business owners and consultants, including Fyffes, Maxol and RTÉ Radio. 

Oisin is the Social Media Lead in the Sales and Marketing team of one of the most exciting and fastest growing companies in Ireland, The City Bin Co., an award winning utility company based in Ireland. Oisin's book charts the lessons learned over the years in bite-sized tips to help guide the budding entrepreneur or salesman, or anyone seeking inspiration to get into a winning mindset. At the event itself Oisin will talk about the relationship between Selling and Marketing, the marketing story behind The Binman's Guide to Selling, the importance of creating content and building brand awareness.

OMiG would like to thank the Harbour Hotel for its continued support of this next meet up session. In addition to that we have had great help from Castleprint, although we are Online focused we still need business cards and pull up stands. Block5Design have also been an amazing asset, designing our new business cards, pull up stand and soon to be released website.


Preparation is underway for OMiG’s June event also. The event will take place on June 25th 2013 and is being sponsored by Gaumina, a dynamic digital agency based in Dublin. David Clayton, General Manager of Gaumina will be presenting at the event, alongside our very own local Ado Bannon from Shamrocks of Success. Further details to be announced at our May event.

Online Marketing in Galway Win Award from JCI Galway

JCI Galway President Olivia Hayes and Mayor of Galway City Terry O’Flaherty presented six local winners in the Ten Oustanding Young Person of the World program (JCI TOYP) hosted by JCI Galway. The awards serves to recognise individuals between the ages of 18 and 40 who exemplify the best attributes of the Galway’s young people.

The Event which was hosted by Junior Chamber International Galway was held at Galway City Hall on April 23rd 2013 6-8 pm. The local winners were awarded winners in the following categories:

1. Moral and/or environmental leadership accomplishment

 Fergus Witney the The Organic Gardener

2. Business, economic, and/or entrepreneurial

  Ronan Walsh from My Toys Direct 

3. Humanitarian and/or voluntary leadership

Online Marketing in Galway presents JCI Galway and Marketer Dave!

Online Marketing in Galway’s (OMiG) next meet up session is taking place on Monday the 30th of April at 7pm in the Harbour Hotel, Galway. Thank’s again go to the Harbour Hotel for its on-going support of the network’s activities.

April’s event is kindly being sponsored by JCI (Junior Chamber International) Galway. JCI is a voluntary, world-wide, independent, personal development organisation for young professionals and entrepreneurs aged between 18 and 40.

Olivia Hayes, president of JCI Galway will be guest speaking on the night alongside David McGinley aka “Marketer Dave” a freelance marketer based in Galway.  Both speakers have unique and exciting presentations prepared for the event.

Olivia Hayes of JCI Galway will start off the event by giving a presentation entitled JCI Galway - Get Involved and something a little different". Olivia’s presentation will focus on JCI Galway’s activities; in particular two of its key projects for 2013, the Friendly Business Awards and the Galway Young Entrepreneur (GYE) Awards.

Olivia has worked in a wide variety of business and marketing related areas including Client Service, Sales & Marketing, Web Content Management and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). More recently Olivia has begun to expand her IT Skills by studying for a Masters in eCommerce at NUI Galway.

DavidMcGinleyMarketer Dave” will then give a talk on ‘What not to share - The pitfalls of social media’.

David is a former graduate of NUI Galway, where he completed a Degree in Business, followed by a Masters in Marketing. He has worked with many Companies (including OnePageCRM and NUI Galway) in running and helping their social media accounts grow. He is therefore well placed to talk about the pitfalls of social media and what not to do. David will also be giving some tips on how to recover if problems do arise from your current social media strategy.

Registration to this event is open and free. Registrations are now live online via evenbrite. Links to registrations will be made available through the OMiG website www.Galwaymarketing.ie, and will also be announced on all OMiG social media channels right up to the event.

Preparation for OMiG’s May event is also underway. The event will take place on May 30th 2013 and is being sponsored by Marketo, Industry leaders in the delivery of marketing automation software. A representative of Marketo will also be speaking at the event. OMiG are very excited to hear what this guest speaker will have to say!
